Celebrities Promoting Junk Food

Celebrities

The wall of shame

A recent study shows that almost all food promoted by celebrities in commercials and ads are unhealthy sugary drinks, fast food and candy. Letting teen idols promote unhealthy eating is a marketing strategy used by the food industry to cause youths to buy their products.

Collaborating with the junk food industry can be lucrative for the biggest stars. BeyoncĂ©’s deal with Pepsi is estimated to be worth $50 million, and Justin Timberlake received $6 million from McDonald’s.

But it’s really quite tacky. The biggest stars hardly need more money, not when it comes at this cost. These celebrities are greedily contributing to the spreading of obesity and disease over the world.

The music idols mentioned in the study are: Taylor Swift, Baauer, will.i.am, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Mariah Carey, Calvin Harris, Blake Shelton, Enrique Iglesias, Beyoncé and Wiz Khalifa.
