Before and after
How effective can it be to combine daily intermittent fasting with a strict low-carb diet? Well, this fantastic success story from Jamie says it all:
The E-mail
Dear Dr. Eenfeldt,
I can’t adequately express how grateful I am to you, both for inspiring me to try the LCHF diet and (through Dr. Jason Fung) getting me started on intermittent fasting.
Through a combination of the two methods, (which I outline below), I have, over the past 10 months or so, lost 30 pounds (14 kg), doubled my HDL, have a very low cholesterol and an ideal HDL/LDL ratio, very low triglycerides, and HbA1c in the middle of the desirable range. My internist is astonished at my results. Everybody tells me I look like I’m in my 30’s (I’m 69).
I’m within about ¾ stone (love that British unit!) (3 kg – 7 lbs) of what I weighed 50 years ago, when playing football at Yale!
My method is to follow very strict LCHF (less than 20 g carbs daily), no sugar or refined food whatsoever, and 14-20-hour fasts virtually daily. I walk (“power walk” ) with high intensity intervals daily for an hour. I do some resistance training with barbells and dumbbells. I sleep 8 to 10 hours nightly. My method is to follow a very strict LCHF (less than 20 g carbs daily), no sugar or refined food whatsoever, and 14-20-hour fasts virtually daily.I’m a semi-retired physician; I now teach mathematics up through calculus and linear algebra to high school and junior college students (scroll down to near bottom right for brief bio under “Jamie”). I do this work for free, so that my little organization can help some scholarship students.
Thank you for changing my life!
Jamie
